While grieving the loss of her ex-husband, actress Eva LaRue was also forced to deal with someone breaking into his home and stealing his identity, she shared in a recent interview.
LaRue opened up about the loss of her ex-husband, actor John Callahan, to Fox News in an interview published Tuesday. LaRue, 53, was married to Callahan, her co-star on the daytime soap opera “All My Children,” for nearly 10 years before their divorce in 2004. Callahan died suddenly in March at the age of 66 after having a stroke, PEOPLE reports.
LaRue explained to Fox News that the tragic loss of her ex-husband and the father of her 18-year-old daughter, Kaya, was compounded by identity theft. “It has definitely been a roller coaster because not only is my daughter grieving so hard, but I'm grieving separately in my way, too, because he has been my great friend,” she said. “And at the same time, somebody broke into his house right after he died and stole his identity, his car, his laptop. They have been taking out loans and credit cards in his name and they’ve siphoned money out of his bank account — it's been a nightmare. A nightmare.” LaRue went on to explain that, despite the repeated phone calls to try to find the culprit and rectify the situation, it’s been a painfully slow process.
“As you can imagine, every phone call is being put on hold for like 20 minutes or an hour or two hours, and then people being like, ‘I'm sorry, we can't help you.’ It's just like a bureaucratic nightmare,” she said. “Every phone call that we make to try to fix the situation is just insane.”
